This past week has certainly been a whirlwind of cancellations. I have written a letter which contains general information passed down from my superiors which I hope will help you understand the reasoning behind these cancellations. This letter should be sent to you by the SSC using their mailing list. If not a copy is available here.

Also have a look at the Activities and Information page.

Local Training

All cadet activities have been cancelled effective March 12, 2020 through April 5, 2020. This parallels the extended March Break closure of Ontario publicly funded schools. Affected training activities are:

  • The March Break trip we had scheduled for March 18, 2020
  • The Mess Dinner we had scheduled for March 25, 2020
  • CO’s Parade we had scheduled for April 1, 2020
  • Band practices between March 12 and April 3, 2020
  • Sports Nights between March 12 to and including April 3. 2020
  • Cadet Correspondent Workshop March 28,29

We have been told that we will receive direction on the status of local training on April 3, 2020. You can expect an update as soon as I can publish after receiving that direction.

Open Range

We announced on March 11 we would hold an open range on April 4, 2020. The cancellation of local training puts this in question and it depends on the direction we receive on April 3. If we receive permission to re-start training on the weekend in time to set up and publish an open range on April 4 we will do so. Please understand that this may provide a very short window for us to respond and we ask for your understanding. We will provide this opportunity if we are able.

Other than Local Training

Assuming local training is approved to continue after April 5, 2020, we do not have any activities scheduled that would be restricted between April 5 and April 30.

Summer Training and International Exchanges

As of March 12 International Air Cadet Exchange has been cancelled.

It is too early to tell if there will be an impact on domestic summer training. National Cadet and Junior Canadian Ranger Support Group is working on contingency plans. However as of 12 March, 2020 no additional offers of participation (summer training) or offers of employment (staff cadet) at CTCs/CFTCs will be actioned until after 30 April, 2020. So in this case no news is at least not bad news.

Any cadets with offers who have not returned the completed forms should contact the CO using the absence notification form to arrange for those offers to be completed. The CO will in turn use the contact information on file to reach out to those cadets.

Return to Training

As things currently stand our next training activity will be the regular parade night April 8, 2020.

Any questions or concerns should be directed through the absence notification form.
