With our virtual activities we need a way for cadets to share pictures and short videos of what they are doing. At the same time we want to keep that space safe and familiar to the cadet age group. After consulting with our senior cadets we have decided to create a new and private Instagram account.

If you don’t want to set up set up an Instagram account you may also post to the squadron Facebook Group, if you have a Facebook account. If not, please get in touch with the Commanding Officer who will work with you to come up with a way to share your pictures with the squadron.

The most interesting pictures and videos will be shared to the website.

We also recommend that you or your parents/guardians set up a Zoom account. The staff, SSC and senior cadets have been having virtual meetings using Zoom. This will be a good tool for us to have as close to in-person meetings as we can at these times. The Commanding Officer will be holding virtual office hours on Zoom for cadets who have question or just want to chat. Zoom instructions follow the Instagram instructions.

Creating an Account

If you don’t already have an Instagram account you will have to create one. Before proceeding cadets should discuss this with their parents/guardians.

If parents/guardians agree create an Instagram account by browsing to https://www.instagram.com/ or installing the Instagram application on your phone or tablet.

Make Your Account Private

We recommend making your account private, this is something you can also discuss with your parents and will depend on how you use your account.

These instructions for for using the web browser, which will also configure an account that you only use on a mobile device. If you want to do this on your mobile device you will have to consult the directions for your application.

Click on the user icon which is rightmost of this group and will look different for you:

Then click on the gear icon:

Finally check the box for a private account:

You may also want to uncheck Story Sharing, but this may prevent us from sharing your pictures. We will see when we get going:

Once you have created and set up your account click on Home:

Enter our squadron account name in the search box and click on the account to request to follow:

Then complete the form below. Staff will validate your membership in the squadron and approve the follow request.

Zoom is a video conferencing tool that many people are using to hold virtual meetings at this time. Creating a personal account is free. Again you can create an account using a web browser, then download the Zoom application to your mobile device.

In your browser visit the Zoom sign-up page: https://zoom.us/signup and complete the signup form. You may also use a Google or Facebook account to create your Zoom account. Once your account is created and you are signed in and you want to join a meeting click JOIN A MEETING in the top right:

You will get to a page with this form:

You will receive the meeting ID from the person hosting the meeting. Don’t join too early or there won’t be a meeting to join yet.

If you have a camera and microphone, such as a mobile device or laptop, you will be able to share audio and video with the meeting. Even if you don’t you will still be able to see the meeting host and participate through chat.

You may even find you like having meetings with your friends in the squadron.

The free version of Zoom limits meetings to 40 minutes, but that should be enough time for most things we want to do. If not we can just have a follow up meeting.

Please complete the Zoom registration form below. This will allow us to keep a list of cadets with their Zoom account information and be able to send personal invitations to meetings.
